Why Us?

A mournful song pierces the sea,
Where is it coming from? What could it be?
Long slender bodies float aimlessly in the water,
Less than a dozen have survived the slaughter,
Their once strong bodies are now frail and weak,
An answer to the question their souls seek,
An answer to the infamous question: Why Us?

"Why us?" they wail in whistles high and low,
"Why us?" they wailed with their young in tow,
"Why us?" they wail as they mourn their dead,
"Why us?" they wail though the answer they dread.

As the song echoes softly away,
A deathly silence falls on the day,
With whistles high and low,
With wails loud and soft,
With screams up and down,
They all try to ask,

WHY US?
