The Selkie Song

The gentle swaying
Of the water on the sand
Mesmerizes me.

The silvery light
Of the full moon reflects the
Starry evening.

Slowly I crawl up
From the foaming sea, water
Droplets sparkling.

My sleek furred skin
Falls from my slender body
And lands at my feet.

For just a moment
I stand tall like a woman,
With beauty and grace.

And the cool sea breeze
Blows across my furless face,
Blurring my vision.

In the moonlight I
Dance to the rhythm of the
Crashing waves and wind!

My high voice joins in,
Raised in the song of the sea,
Moving with the swells.

For only a time
I can enjoy the tranquil
Peace before I go.

Unfortunately
I must soon transform back to
My real form — a seal.
